description: "The toolchain and tools you need before building an application with Slint SC."
---
Before you install Slint SC, make sure your host has the following software packages installed.

## Rust Toolchain

You must build your application with a Rust toolchain that's qualified for [ISO 26262 ASIL B](/qualification-plan/standards-compliance/#integrity-level) or higher.
The runtime and the generated code ship as source, so your toolchain compiles them, not ours.

The toolchain has to support Rust 1.95 or later.
The runtime is `no_std` and doesn't allocate, so it builds for any target your toolchain supports, bare metal included.

The guide uses Cargo to build the application.

## Coverage Measurement

To measure the coverage of your `.slint` code, you also need these on the host:

- `llvm-cov` and `llvm-profdata`, the LLVM tools that match your Rust toolchain.
- [`cargo-llvm-cov`](https://github.com/taiki-e/cargo-llvm-cov), which runs your tests with coverage instrumentation.
- Optionally, `genhtml` from [lcov](https://github.com/linux-test-project/lcov), to render the result as HTML.

The measurement runs on the host, not on the bare-metal target.
To learn what that means for your evidence, see [Coverage of Slint Code](/user-manual/slint-coverage/#constraints).
